Jersey Clubs

Jersey…a petrol heads paradise? It is hard to imagine that a picturesque island that is only 9 miles by 5 with a top speed limit of 40 mph and with just one dual carriage way and several roads with limited as low as 15mph would host more motorsport events every year than some UK counties! Since the first club was founded in 1920 motorsport in all its forms has been a very popular escape for young and old alike. Now the four local clubs organise over 90 events every year despite there currently being no permanent race circuit.

Whether your passion is two wheels or four the visitor to the island has a host of motorsport events to enjoy throughout the year. If you cannot visit us for JIMF this year then why not following the links to the various clubs and the exciting events that you can either watch or compete in and join us in celebrating the combustion engine at its finest.
What's On

Jersey Motor Cycle & Light Car Club (JMC&LCC)

Image

Formed in 1920 the first event was a motorcycle reliability trial and then progressed to Hill Climbs, with many venues, prior to settling for the picturesque setting of Bouley Bay, which has for many decades been a round of the British Hill Climb Championship. Today it runs in the region of sixty events including the ever popular sand racing in the summer months.

This sees car and bike competitors take to an oval circuit at various beaches that are laid out as the tide falls so that members can race one another before the rising tide calls a halt to proceedings. The club also runs motocross, trials, sprints, hill climbs, auto tests and rallies. In October they run the very popular Jersey Rally where some 80 cars take part in a special stage rally held along the tight and twisting closed public roads that can see competitors exceeding 100 mph on small country roads that are subject to a normal 15 mph limit!

Jersey Classic & Modern Trials Club

Image

Founded in 2000 the club aims to put the fun into motorcycle trials with members competing on trials bikes from numerous eras. With trials ‘Keeping your feet up – is the name of the game’ and here youngsters can start off with electric trials bikes before graduating to the petrol beasts that are taken over sections that appear to be ‘certain death’ to most mere mortals with 20 foot almost vertical climbs, huge leaps between giant boulders on the edge of a deep chasm usually from a standing start, or trying to navigate slippery moss strewn waterfall sections with hidden submerged rocks…an exciting sport that is certainly not for the faint hearted.
